Dirt

I see from my window
next doors tree
long mounds of dirt
piled up
for new neighbours
new garden
beneath
They look like fresh graves
a family arranged
together in bones
as in flesh
Posing beneath
the branches
for a photo taken
backwards in time
and the worms and earth
fade out the details
one by one
Strip back the layers
of the image
blur the edges
paper bare
The flowers over top
seem to capture
family forwards
spreading out
across the spaces
Flooding colour in
